We are in the process of submitting a grant application (stage 2) to Community Spaces (Big Lottery fund) which, if successful will give us £24k to make Green Ridge even more beautiful, with an aim to promote bio-diversity and attract more local residents to access their green space. As a group, we are keen to do the following:

        · Increase the native flora in the meadow

        · Improve accessibility for walkers into Coney wood by improvement to paths and steps

        · Protect native wildlife habitats in Coney wood by building deadwood fences

        · Gently coppice parts of the wood to create glades by allowing light in to improve undergrowth

        · Purchase suitable native plants to provide better undergrowth in the wood

        · Purchase and erect bird, dormice and bat boxes

        · Purchase and plant small trees (whips) and some specimen trees for hedgerows

        · Purchase (rustic) picnic tables

        · Create a nature trail through the woods using low, unobtrusive, educational signage to provide information (including illustrations) on local flora and fauna in hedges, woods and meadow

We are in the process of consulting with the wider community but first we would like your views on this and your suggestions on what you would like to see improved on this land, please e-mail your views by 19th November to: hailey_owen@hotmail.com

We will be holding a consultation evening on Monday 21 November (2-4pm and 6.30-8.30pm) at the Ascension Church Hall, Westdene which will list and illustrate what areas the community wishes to see improved on the site and what we aim to submit in the application.

Your views will be greatly appreciated, thank you
